The Star of the Indonesian Fashion World Brought Original Designs to Brno
She is 22 and she has been working in the fashion company of her parents since she was 17. Her designs stirred the water at the Jakarta Fashion Week in 2010 so much that the renowned television channel CNN asked to do an interview with her. Today, she presented her exclusive fashion collection at the STYL and KABO fairs in Brno. Her name is Dian Pelangi and she is one of the talented designers of the Muslim world who managed to draw the attention of American and European audiences, including the audience in Brno.
“I have created this collection particularly for this show,” the young designer confirmed in Brno, adding that the European market requires different colours, materials and that the individual designs are also adjusted for the height of European models. “The entire collection is based on handiwork,” she adds, smiling. Dian Pelangi looks at the world with global eyes and she aims to assert herself with Indonesian fashion, influenced by the Muslim culture and Indonesian tradition not only in her homeland, but also in USA and Europe. After all, she knows the European environment from her studies at the Ecole Superier des Arts and Techniques de la Mode (ESMOD) which she graduated from in 2008. Two years ago, she also draw attention at the International Fair of the Muslim World in Le Burget where she not only strengthened her brand but mainly her position of an Indonesian designer with strong authorial signature. Dian Pelangi is often inspired by rainbow colours and in her work, she draws from the Indonesian heritage, mainly from lively tie dyes and other dye techniques and magnificent songkets.
In the family business, Dian Pelangi works exclusively as a designer and peeks into marketing a little; other professions are in the hands of her team. “My parents founded the company in 1991. I have recently gotten married and my husband is a manager in the company,” she adds. Dian Pelangi is the face of the company, which has approx. 500 stable customers and which has a network of stores in 13 cities including Malaysia.
